University of HertfordshireCernunnos Homes

Sponsor of the Environmental Business of the Year award

Cernunnos Homes is a renewable energy installation and eco building company. Having been a property developer for many years, Peter McKeown started building affordable 'Eco' homes in the mid 2000's. Following this he and his brother Andrew began Cernunnos Homes to install renewable energy systems on other properties as the introduction of the Feed in Tariff system increased demand dramatically. Today, they install all types of renewable energy systems from Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps to Biomass boilers and MVHR systems. Working with both domestic and corporate clients, Cernunnos also provides a consultancy service that helps clients reduce energy demand whilst maximising investment returns. The company now also offer traditional building services for all with the focus on sustainable building techniques. They also continue to build their own affordable 'Eco Homes', installing and testing out the latest technologies as they do so.

Cernunnos Homes was created in 2010, as a subsidiary of the more established Cernunnos, by brothers Peter and Andrew McKeown. The company now employs 8 people and is looking at 2011 turnover in excess of £2m. They have just opened their first showroom in Hitchin town centre and also have an office in Cambridge. Peter McKeown says "the growth of the Company and industry continues unabated. Whilst we all know Solar PV tariffs will be cut next year, there is so much happening in the industry that we feel the growth will continue for many years. The 'Green Deal' and 'Renewable Heat Incentive' are being introduced next year and we feel that we are best placed to take advantage of these market developments and do not rely solely on one part of the industry to survive."
